It’s been ages since I updated you on any of my obsessions. Today, I’m going to fix that.
As many of you know, I’m currently revising The Physician’s Apprentice. My editor‘s advice was to flesh out some scenes, so I’m adding words. This means a particular kind of madness has come over me. You know how I get. 😛 At this point in time, it looks pretty much like this.
I do most of my writing to a playlist and I have two songs on repeat at this stage. The first is A Cinematic Plea for an End, by Montaigne. This is such a soothing, epic-sounding tune, that I could literally listen to it all day. I find it great for writing the more dramatic scenes I’ve been adding in that name of character development.
The second is Relax my Beloved by Alex Clare. This song sticks in my head all the time.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m Inktobering. I’ve been threatening to do this challenge for years now, but I always seem to come up with an excuse. I never imagined that I’d enjoy these drawings so much. Despite my art history, I’ve been super bad at creating anything that did not involve letters in a structured format for some years now. So this is a kind-of return to my roots.
Folks, I’m having a ball. Drawing has really helped my creativity in general, and it helps me focus. It’s also a great break from staring at a screen, and a moment to recollect my thoughts. Plus, it’s a fun thing to do while Kayla’s making art too. (My cousin suggested that I blog about all of Kay’s art projects, so maybe I’ll even share some of her masterpieces with you.)
Anyway, here are some of my favourite Inktober attempts so far.
As for series, I’m doing horribly. The only things I’ve watched in the last three or so weeks, are two episodes of Naruto Shippuden (GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!! I was a wreck after Unison Sign!) and some kiddie’s shows/movies from the corner of my eye. I did start re-watching Firefly a while ago, but that’s on hold while I revise. I’ll get back to that as soon as I’m done writing, because Firefly will always be one of my favourites. #browncoatsforever Lizanne, I still can’t believe we’re friends while you don’t like this show. 😛
And that’s about it.
I’ve been thinking about a mommy post or two, but really, this won’t turn into a mom blog. If you’d like to read about some of the things Kay and I get up to, please let me know. Because she’s not in a kindergarten (don’t even ask), I try to do the kinds of things she would be kept busy with in a school setup. If you’d like to read about that, I’d love to share.
Also, one or two of you have asked for some posts about the new book, especially after I drew that braid for Inktober. I’ll start fiddling with some stuff to introduce you to characters and so on in the near future. Watch this space!
That’s all from me for the day. Have a good one, folks!
