Review: Rogue Adventure

Review: Rogue Adventure

I don’t often review games on the blog, but I might try my hand at more of these in the future, especially since I adore this game!

But first, a quick disclaimer. As with all my reviews, I don’t receive compensation for my thoughts or opinions (I’ll state it clearly if that ever changes). I decided to write this post because I sincerely love this little game.

I’ve been playing Rogue Adventure since mid-2021, and still play this game every day.

Rogue Adventure is a deck-building card game app (only on Android) in which you play as one of 13 races and journey across 11 worlds, battling monsters and collecting cards along the way.

You can buy upgrades and new cards with the gems and coins you earn during play, though you don’t keep these when you start a new game. You also have the option to watch the odd ad to earn extra coins, but the ads are optional and not forced on you after every round of play.

There’s a load of variation in the different classes, the randomness of which world you’ll battle through next, and random secret areas you could choose to enter or avoid. Also, you get to collect cards and power upgrades, and we all know how neurodivergents like to collect things. Besides that, the game is constantly updated and has recently gained new classes and game modes. Endless tower mode is my favourite recent addition because it offers the option to chase a neverending supply of dopamine.

It’s a straightforward game. Anyone can figure this out, but that’s part of what makes it so awesome. I don’t have to think too hard when I’m playing to unwind, but there is a challenge in the tournament or inferno levels (basically the same as boss cells in Dead Cells or heat levels in Hades).

This game isn’t a battery drainer. I have Rogue Adventure open almost every moment of every day. It runs in the background while I’m using my phone for other stuff and doesn’t crash when I lock my phone for work. This is great because whenever I get distracted (which is a lot) or I need a 2-minute break, the app is already open. Additionally, my phone’s battery still lasts all day.

Finally, I love the pixelated art style. Retro-feel games have an instant thumbs up from me, and Rogue Adventure’s recent graphics update added some really cute artwork to an already awesome game. As for the music, it’s a phone game, so it comes with phone game sounds. Which is fine, but I don’t care for it. The music is a bit repetitive, and the special sound effects are a bit annoying IMO. Thankfully, we can play games on mute, right?

Still my favourite game. 9.5/10 for me!

Until next time.
