I’ve recently taken up a new hobby–as if I didn’t have enough half-done art projects strewn about. I’ve never done anything like this before, because I’m not particularly blessed when it comes to needle and thread. Yet, here we are.
And, like with all other new projects, I hurled myself into this hobby willy-nilly, buying a bunch of supplies without even watching a video or something explaining how I was supposed to make cross-stitch art. I did watch a few videos after I’d bought the supplies, which, by the way, turned out to be spot on. I don’t know how I managed to guess at the stuff I’d need, maybe it’s some kind of art instinct.
Anyway. I found this video really helpful. If you, like me, are just starting out, I suggest checking it out.
On the very day I raided Michael’s for cross-stitch stuff (not a sponsored post) I began working on my first project. Then the next project when that one was done (the next day). Then back to Michael’s for MOAR CROSS-STITCH STUFF.
Which brings us to today. 🙂
I figured out pretty early on that cross-stitch has a lot in common with pixel art–another thing in which I’ve dabbled. So I found it pretty easy to make my own patterns.
I wanted to make a gift for a very dear vegetarian friend, Amber (check out her blog here). Since her blog is called Running on Plants, I figured I’d make something that went with that.
A quick Google search for vegetarian sayings brought me to ‘living life on the veg’, and I was inspired to create my own design. This is what I came up with.
You’re welcome to use this pattern for free! I don’t have a fancy shmancy PDF for you to download, just my hand-drawn design. Still, do with it what you will. 🙂
If you’re interested in the exact colour floss I used, these are colour-changing ones from Loops & Threads:
- 816 (black)
- 812 (green)
- 808 (purple)
- 806 (red)
- 800 (yellow)
If you don’t follow me on Instagram (please do!) these are the other two projects I’ve completed.
Anyway, that’s it from me for today. Hope you have a good weekend, and if you do end up trying out cross-stitch, send me a pic of your work in the comments. I’d love to see what you make.
