Yes, indeedy. It’s almost that time again.
Last year, my Nanowrimo experience wasn’t so great (I seem to have misplaced the post where I updated you on that). To be fair, I had just gone through a bunch of stuff, including finding a new editor and living through one of the lowest points since moving to Germany. Oh, the three-month mark. Ha. If only last-year-Yolandie knew that the SIX-month mark was a’comin’. I didn’t even blog about that low, if that’s any indication of how low I was.
Anyway, I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t be doing Nano again this year. I’ve even been avoiding discussions about it.
Last year probably wasn’t a complete fail, even if I didn’t finish. I managed around 35000 words and that’s still something. The ‘fail’ comes in when you consider that most of those words were a melodramatic waste and I don’t have any of it left on my PC. I deleted it in a fit of broody-rage. 😛
Of course, I wouldn’t be writing this post if I still wasn’t planning to attempt this madness again.
Up hopped a plot bunny.
Then another leapt in.
Then the plot bunnies pretty much did it like they do on the Discovery channel, and now I have a plethora of the little critters on my hands.
I seriously need to get some of this random inspiration out of my system, so I figure Nano gives me the opportunity to do that. Now I just have to figure out which of these ideas is the one to nurture.
This, in itself, is a massive thing in my world. Up to this point, I’ve never worked on more than one story idea at the same time. I don’t think I can, but it’s a grey area I’ll just have to explore, isn’t it? I have a bone-deep need to pour all of my attention and obsessive capabilities into a sole cup, before I start filling others. This applies to most areas of my life. I usually don’t watch more than one series at a time, or read more than one book.
And I’m writing something at the mo. It’s a history-thing for The Physician’s Apprentice, which has me giddy with excitement in its own right, even if it’s a continuation of my current creative baby.
To make things interesting, I’ve also had a tidal wave of ideas for the sequel to TPA. You know, because I absolutely needed more to obsess about. I’m looking forward to the sequel, though I’m not writing a word of it until TPA is safely published.
Of course, I’ve also fallen off the my-novel-is-pure-crap side of the cliff. Don’t worry, this is normal for any kind of creative soul. We live in perpetual love/hate with all things we create. Tomorrow, I’ll feel better about it – even proud – when the eagles come to save me. The day after I’ll be plummeting into the abyss again. You get the point that a lot is going on in my writing-verse right now, don’t you?
Here’s a pretty cool post on turning a plot bunny into a novel from She’s Novel. I’m planning to do just that.
I’m wondering now if this sudden inspiration doesn’t originate in the story cube challenge. Do plot bunnies feed on the juices squeezed out of your brain in the hours spent agonising over finding a story out of nine cubes? ◄That sentence gives me a headache.
Anyway, the point of all this rambling is to let you know a sudden bout of insanity has kicked in. Levels of obsession are already rising into the amber zone, with expected highs incoming. Run for cover, folks.
If someone out there is crazy enough to do Nano with me, please drop me a line somewhere. Let’s see if I can do it this time.
Have a good week!
