My Weekend In Pictures – Carnival in Düsseldorf

This weekend was a sunny one. After the rainiest two months of my life, we’ve been extra thankful for every ray of sunlight coming our way. Hopefully, that statement didn’t jinx it…

Anyway, all of the sunshine means a lot of outdoors activities, even if it’s still chilly out. This weekend, we went walking a lot and we went to Carnival.

Now Carnival, or ‘Karneval’, is usually around Rosenmontag in February. Of course, I mentioned the rain in the first paragraph, and that meant that the main event for Karneval had to be postponed. Sunday was the big day for the carnival to take place, and we headed to Düsseldorf with some friends to see it unfold.

We had a lot of fun! I’ve never seen anything on this scale before. The vibe was fun and whimsical, the floats were amazing, and the event gave vendors the chance to get rid of their last gluhwein stocks from the holidays. As with everything in Germany, there were stalls selling beer, different kinds of wurst (sausage) and all kinds of other yummies.

Candy, toys and all kinds of other products were hurled at the crowds from the floats as they moved by. I even caught a mascara from the Benefit float, over which I’m super excited.

Here are some of the photos.

There’s a German candy brand, Haribo, and they make these jelly sweets called asses with ears. I’m not even kidding.

We’ve found that the German people are quite interested in what’s happening in America and generally love Americans here. They also have strong opinions about whatever’s happening across the water, like the presidential race.

Hence… Well, an ass with ears.

Anyway, we had a really good time at carnival. It was busy and crowded, but it was fun and we got a lot of free stuff. 😀 Besides, I adore Düsseldorf and going there is always a blast.

Now, let’s see how much writing I can get done after the weekend’s sugar-high.

Have a great week, folks!
