I’ve been hinting at the fact that my life is about to change drastically. No, scratch that. Not hinting, telling you right out. 🙂
Today I can finally let you know what’s happening, and it’s not what you think. No, I’m not pregnant.
My husband was offered a position in Germany and he accepted it. So, my big news is that we’re moving to Germany. 🙂
Seriously.
We’re going to be close to Düsseldorf, so we’re looking for residences in the surrounding areas. At this point in time, we’ll depart from SA at about mid-August. Yes. That soon.
It’s been a whirlwind, I tell you. Getting all of the paperwork done has been a challenge more often than not. We still don’t have all of the documentation we need, because a lot of it is stuck in the various departments that have to process it. Some delays have been more frustrating than others, but at least things are starting to come to a conclusion for the most part.
Also, I’ve been getting rid of a lot of our stuff. Some of it needs to be sold, some needs to be packed up for shipping. It’s weird. On top of all of this, I’m still sick.
Jan and I have also been learning German on the side. Learning a new language is often challenging, but I have to say, it’s a lot less complicated than I thought it would be. Afrikaans (my home language) is much closer to German than I initially believed, which means that we can understand much of it fairly easily. And with the resources available online these days, learning a new language isn’t as daunting as it used to be.
I won’t keep things from you any longer. In fact, I plan to share a lot more of the process with you from now on. I mean, everyone officially knows we’re moving now. 🙂 So, if you want to take this new journey with me, please, stick around.
If you live in and around Düsseldorf and have tips for me, please, let me know. If you’re in South Africa and have questions about the move, contact me. And for all other general correspondence, feel free to contact me too. I love hearing from you. 🙂
This is a new chapter in my life. It’s both AMAZING and TERRIFYING. Most of the time, I don’t know what to feel or think. I can promise you one thing, however. No matter what happens from here on out, I’m sure we’re going to learn a lot. The experience is going to be priceless at the end of it all, and that’s something awesome to look forward to.
Get ready, Germany. Here we come.
Have a good week folks!
