We’ve assimilated to life as Canadians in all but one aspect—I still do my spring cleaning in October/November, like I would in the southern hemisphere.
And, as luck would have it, my intense spring cleaning fever coincides with something big this year. We’re moving.
For many immigrants, purchasing a home is a long-term dream. Moving to a new country means a clean slate. Having no credit record is a big part of that, and we immigrated twice. That means our peers in our country of origin (and in our new home) are often on better footing than us.
So, we didn’t think we’d be able to purchase a home anytime soon.
Until we did.
This move is extra sweet because we’re moving into a home of our own for the first time in our adult lives. A place where we can hang pictures without having to fret about whether or not we’re allowed to make holes in the walls. We can paint, plant, and alter as we choose. We can have a pet, which is probably the plus that has the youngest of us most excited.
I’m thankful beyond words. And, honestly, a little stressed. My neurodivergent brain likes packing things just so, and even though we’re only set to move in December, I’ve already filled a good few boxes.
But my heart is content. Especially since packing means additional access to my spring cleaning.
What can I share about our new home without giving away too much on the interwebs?
In all the years the hubs and I have been together, we’ve never, ever, walked into a house and both said, ‘This is us.’ We knew this home was perfect for our needs. The layout is great, complete with a home office space and a lovely kitchen.
It’s a good size for our little family, with loads of natural light and nooks for my assorted house plants. It has good access to schools and parks, and we’re hoping developments in the area will bring more nearby shopping opportunities.
We’re so excited to embark on this new part of our journey. I’ll be sure to share pics with you as soon as we’re settled.
Until next time.
Yolandie.
