It’s been years since the last time I cross-stitched something, but it feels right to return to this craft now that I’m so deeply in love with crochet. Fibre art for the win!

But before we talk about cross-stitch, back story. Kayla’s outgrown her old bedroom. She’s always been in the smaller bedroom—one closer to ours—but needs change with age, and larger space has replaced the previously required proximity. So, she’s moved into our guest room, leaving her old room free for the picking.

My kid and I are both artsy-fartsy, messy, and easily distracted. Half-complete projects litter our house, but that fact has never discouraged us from starting something new. And, as these things do, yarn, glitter, paints, etcetera, have multiplied and crept into every other room. 😅

Luckily, our newly vacant space would be the perfect vessel to contain our chaos!

My husband is an avid woodworker, and the new craft room has become somewhat of a project for him, too. Converting the space is a slow process, but making custom furniture has been extremely rewarding. Look out for photos of our creations in future posts. 😁

Meanwhile, Kayla suggested artworks celebrating our craft room, which reminded me of a cross-stitch pattern I made a few years ago. Which brings us to this post.

I’m no pattern-making expert, but I wanted to offer this freebie anyway. It’s a simple design, perfect for cross-stitch beginners, and looks great with added beads or shiny floss. I made two versions of the pattern, one for solo crafters and another for pairs or groups.

The original design was too busy for my liking, so I ‘decluttered’ it quite a bit. That said, I’m including a photo of the original to show how easily you can adapt the pattern to suit your style.
