Family Fun at Telus Spark Science Centre

Raising a kid involves a lot of nostalgia. We rewatch our old favourite cartoons, relive school experiences, and remember things we’d once learned in a classroom.

Now, my kid is a total science geek. She loves taking things apart to learn about their inner workings and lives for palaeontology slash zoology.

But I’m a late bloomer. Like her, I was constantly reading at that age but wasn’t even remotely interested in science. I’m in that group of millennials that wasn’t encouraged to pursue traditionally ‘male’ careers. Luckily, in raising Kayla, I’ve discovered that science excites me, too. Go figure.

We were super excited to visit Telus Spark Science Centre on an early June afternoon.

The Sacred Defenders of the Universe digital immersion experience was a great way to start our tour. The kids loved chasing fish and growing vines, and I was thrilled to be inside the art. Unfortunately, sensory overload soon set in, and we had to leave before the end of the story.

We moved on to the Wonderspaces exhibition, where we experienced many super cool sciency-art stuff. I really enjoyed Body Paint by Memo Akten, Blooms by John Edmark, and On a Human Scale by Matthew Matthew.

Next, we watched a movie about underwater caves in the Infinity Dome Theatre, and then returned to the exhibits.

Kayla had a blast trying out the hands-on exhibits, but her favourite was a bed of nails, the red see-saw chairs, and building in the Open Studio.

Here are some of the photos. 😎

See you next week!
