Cologne is a packed tourist city, but it’s easy to see why. There’s a certain vibe to the place, an undeniable energy, which is something I tend to live off. Yes, the architecture is amazing, the food is delicious and the sights are worth seeing, but the most important thing about Cologne is that it has personality. The place really does come alive.
Now, we’ve been in Cologne before. I still remember the feeling of awe and disbelief when we rounded that corner and walked into the cathedral. It’s still one of the most imposing buildings I’ve ever seen and the second time underneath it was only slightly less amazing. People built that thing.
This is why we knew we had to show the cathedral to my brother and sister in law when they came to visit us in November. There’s also a nice Christmas market next to the cathedral, which was obviously filled to capacity when we were there. Yay. Germany this time of year overflows with bodies.
Still, Cologne is a worthwhile stop on anyone’s travel calendar. It’s a bonus that one of the first shops we found was an English shop. For the first time in over a year, we have Bovril in the house. Ah. Ma. Zing. ❤
